Project Overview

Diamond Bank Nigeria PLC — which merged with Access Bank PLC in April 2019 to create one of Africa's largest banks — engaged Envostructs for the structural design and engineering of its branch at 238 Herbert Macaulay Way, Adekunle, Yaba. Herbert Macaulay Way is one of Lagos mainland's primary commercial and banking corridors, running from Ebute Metta through Yaba. Envostructs provided a complete structural engineering package: subsoil investigation, foundation design, structural frame design, and construction supervision — ensuring the building met banking industry standards for structural security, fire resistance, and operational robustness. The branch now operates as Access Bank following the Diamond Bank acquisition.

Challenges & Solutions

Challenges

  • Bank branch structural requirements — vault room security, structural security, and banking industry load specifications
  • Foundation design on Yaba's variable urban fill and alluvial soils of the Lagos mainland
  • Construction within the constraints of an existing commercial plot on busy Herbert Macaulay Way
  • Delivering design and construction within Diamond Bank's branch opening programme timeline

Our Solutions

  • Borehole investigation confirming foundation depth, with isolated pad foundations on firm bearing strata
  • Vault room structural design — reinforced concrete walls with heavy-duty floor slab to banking security specs
  • Construction staging plan to manage materials delivery and operations on the narrow Herbert Macaulay Way frontage
  • Fast-track design with early structural drawings issued for foundation construction in parallel with superstructure design

Key Features

Full structural design for Diamond Bank branch building
Subsoil investigation and bespoke foundation design
Bank vault room — RC structure to security specification
Reinforced concrete frame — columns, beams, and slabs
